Mami goes to church
Wendy: We are seeing the Holy Spirit working in these last days. Mami, the biggest leader, witch-doctor, and former antagonist of our work came to church a couple Sabbaths ago! He did not come to get medicine or for any other reason except to learn! He then came again the next Sabbath!
He also interrupted the service for a moment after song service and politely asked if he could ask a question. He asked his sincere question (about Jesus' death--if it was man or God who killed him) and then we missionaries and our local pastors-in-training proceeded to answer him and give him the story of salvation--the shortened version.
He accepted our answer and thanked us and we continued on with the service! This is the same man whose son became demon possessed a few months back and they came to ask OUR help. We have been praying for him for a long time and it's exciting to see the signs of the Holy Spirit's work in his life.
New Truck!
Dwayne and I just got back from a quick trip to Manila. He was able to finally get the renewals/licenses and registrations done for the helicopter AND we were able to pick up our truck! It was not an easy process (putting it on and taking it off the ferry) but what a huge blessing it has already been.
We were able to pick up all our supplies and all the other missionaries supplies and bring it back without having to haul it all from one tricycle to the next and on and off of the shuttle, etc. We also didn't have to wait an hour for the shuttle to fill up and didn't have to haggle over trip prices. We had front-row, air-con seats without being mashed with 6 other people in the row and saved an hour in travel time too! It's a new day in Palawan!
Time in Manila
It was good to see my parents and Michel too who was there at the time. They were having Week of Prayer at AIIAS with Bill Knott from the Review. We spent every day but Sabbath in Manila doing business but it was nice to come home and enjoy the meetings in the evenings. We told a couple mission stories in my parents’ Junior Sabbath School and then Saturday night we all went out to eat with a bunch of friends for a birthday party. That was really nice to be able to see everyone at once and spend some time with them since we were only there a short time.
Helicopter part--answer to prayer
We had several answers to prayer while we were in Manila. One was that a helicopter part arrived that we were desperately needing (It was a "damper" for those of you who know and care). So we will soon be able to fly again! We pray that this will be the last part to fail us for awhile! As usual, it was a small part, but not a small price! (couple thousand--for a used one)
God continues to provide
We praise God for continuing to provide. A few weeks ago we got word there was 7 thousand dollars donated from an anonymous individual. We continue in faith and peace knowing that this is God's project and not our own.
Servicing the missionaries
Dwayne is making plans to take the PFM (Philippine Frontier Missions) director down to some of his projects in the islands of south Palawan in a couple weeks to survey and help the missionaries. A couple of them are fairly new projects. They are very remote and would take 12 hours of rough travel and boat ride as well to get there. When we get a base in the lowlands we will be able to service these missionaries more often--taking them to town to get supplies and, of course providing medical and emergency support.
Back to the clinic
So, we are back in Brooke's Point now. Dwayne is working on getting a trailer put together so we can haul things with the truck when we get land and start building. I will probably head back up the mountain tomorrow and relieve David who is holding things at the clinic by himself. Even during slow season it is not fun to be the only nurse on the mountain. We are anxious for the new student missionaries to come--probably some time this month.
We thank you for your prayers and support as always.
Jesus is coming soon!
Love, Wendy and Dwayne
Other quick updates:
Clinic fund needs continue--Praise God it is slow season now but next month will begin busy season again for another 6 months--pray for God's provision. Contact Georges with AFM for more info.
Land update: We are looking into leasing land as an option for our lowland base, but still looking at buying if God directs in that way. Pray for God to direct us to the place He knows is best.
